THE HISTORY OF MAMMA

Caffe Mamma opened in 1983 in Hill Street,
Richmond and originally just served pasta dishes.

Locally known as the 'restaurant with the washing' the restaurant was decked out like a street cafe in Naples. It was famous for its lines of washing hanging across the restaurant and murals - painted by artist Nick Smith - of the outside of houses, doors, wall posters etc. Also a spiral staircase at the front of the restaurant leading to the party room.

The party room upstairs was decorated by the same artist with a magnificent copy of 'The Family of Alexander Meeting Darius' - by Veronese taking up most of one wall.

In 2004 the restaurant moved to Rocks Lane in Barnes and metamorphosed
itself into Mamma Ristorante. Now the menu was extended with main course
dishes as well as the original pasta and pizza dishes together with
a 'more serious' decor.

In March 2006 we moved back to our 'spiritual' home of Richmond and now can be found at 110 Kew Road. Many of the original dishes are still to be found on the menu and even if they aren't we can probably recreate your favourites for you for a real trip down memory lane.
